I don’t paint much, being mostly a horse racing photographer. When I heard they were having a contest for an official painting for the Queen’s Plate this (this is the Canadian equivalent of the Kentucky Derby) I decided to give it a try. I have photographed the Queen’s Plate every year since 1999, so I looked through my photos and picked out elements of a few to combine into a single image. I sketched it on the canvas first then painted in in acrylic paints. Here is my final result which I will be sending in to enter the contest. I think it turned out fairly well and I am hoping for the best.
