Review: Fizz yarn by Loops & Threads

fizz1This is another of the new types of yarn brought in special for the sale last week at Michaels Canada that I had never seen before and decided to try.  This one is called Fizz and was regular $3.99 per skein, $1.99 during the sale, and $1.39 with my employee discount.  This is a bulky weight yarn, although not much heavier than worsted weight, and the label suggests using a size J hook.  It is 25% wool, 25 % acrylic and 50% nylon and needs to be hand washed and dried flat.  The skeins are 100g or 3.5 oz and 99 yard/90 meters long.  This is another combination yarn that is mostly one color with a small ribbon twisted inside then brought out in small loops every so often to show little loops for texture which is what makes it rate as bulky.  The skein pictured is Turquoise which has the main yarn in turquoise and the ribbon shades from orange to red to dark blue to black.  It is nice and soft despite having wool in it.

fizz2It is pretty easy to work with despite the little nubs sticking out and the loose twist on the fibers.  It is maybe a bit heavier than a simple yarn of the same size, but not much.  I made a hat from it and like the way it turned out (pattern).  This hat took one full skein and about a row and a half from a second skein.  This one would also make a lovely trim to use with a plain yarn.

I just noticed today that this is very similar to the Isaac Mizrahi Craft yarns “Carnegie Hill” just with different colors. Even the skeins are about the same size, just a lot cheaper.
