Playing with popcorn stitch

popcorn-scarfI got some nice 100% cotton yarn at Michaels during the current 50% off sale on Loops and Threads yarn and decided to try something with the popcorn stitch.  I am almost finished with a light scarf using it in a light denim color (it has a much more varied blue shading that shows in this photo).

The pattern is very simple.  Using a G hook and light worsted weight yarn, chain 242, then double crochet in the 3rd stitch from the hook and double crochet all the way across.  Chain 2 and turn then DC another full row.  Chain 2 and turn then DC 4 and in next stitch do a popcorn (DC 5 times in single stitch then take hook out and go thru the first of the 5, pick up the loop and pull it thru, watch a YouTube tutorial).  For the rest of the row, DC 5 then do a popcorn in the 6th stitch all the way across.  Chain 2 and turn then DC a full row.  Chain 2 and turn, DC one then do a popcorn in the next stitch.  For the rest of the row, DC 5 then do a popcorn in the 6th stitch all the way across.  Chain 2 and turn then DC another full row.  Chain 2 and turn then DC 4 and in next stitch do a popcorn in the next stitch.  For the rest of the row, DC 5 then do a popcorn in the 6th stitch all the way across.  Chain 2 and turn then DC another full row twice to finish off.

I am thinking about adding a border in a bit darker denim color after I finish, but haven’t decided yet.
